Chlorine is Not the Only Way to a Sanitary Pool

Aside from using swimming pool chlorine granules products there are several other ways to maintain your pool.

 

Many people do not like the toxicity and odor of water treated with chlorine and prefer other methods to keep their pool safe.   It is not environmentally beneficial to use a lot of strong chemicals on a regular basis.  The feel and taste of a non-chlorinated pool appeals to a majority of people.

Salt Generators

A tiny bit of salt added in the pool is changed into chlorine by salt generators.   No chlorine needs to be habitually added.  A treatment with chlorine of other oxidizing chemical will be needed if the pool becomes contaminated. With salt generators the ph tends to get high so it needs to be analyzed regularly. Decrease the ph with muriatic acid.

The fact that algae is killed by copper and bacteria and viruses are killed by silver is commonly known.   They have long been used for water purification.   Copper and Silver are ionized by a very small amount of electricity and react with the contaminants in the water destroying them.

For easier removal from the filter the bacteria and algae adhere together.  You will still need to regularly shock the pool with swimming pool chlorine or a non-chlorine oxidizer but regular chlorine usage will be greatly reduced.
